Embrace February in a new light. February is filled with romance and innately we gravitate towards others to feel and embrace love. Unfortunately this can sometimes lead to dependency; the over reliance on another being for happiness. This can resemble looking for validation through external sources instead of within. In some instances it can lead to finding love in the wrong places.
The linkage between the way we feel about ourselves and our well being is profound. What are some things that you love about you? When was the last time you practiced self care or appreciated the small victories you accomplished? Self care and self love is a never ending process. What is your body telling you that you need? Small steps can look like lighting a candle, journaling or catching up on some well needed rest.
Self love is a state of appreciation for oneself that grows from actions that support our physical, psychological and spiritual growth. Expanding self-love allows room to accept our weaknesses as well as our strengths. It is important to have compassion for others but having compassion for yourself is vital. YOU are your biggest critique and your hardest supporter. Maintaining positive self talk is imperative. What you say out loud can become your reality of what you believe. Self love can include: words of affirmation, doing a favorite hobby/activity, eating healthy, working out, talking to friends, or socializing.
This month I dare you to shift your focus inward, by setting healthy boundaries and tending to your needs. Remember you cannot pour from an empty cup.
Steps to Appreciating YOU!
Become mindful. Practicing self awareness by listening to what your emotions and body language is telling you.
Practice self-care. This will not be the same for everyone, but intently take steps to take care of yourself.
Set boundaries. Be intentional with how you expect others to treat you within various areas of your life, relationships, work, fiances, family, etc.
Forgive yourself. Show yourself compassion by being kind and gentle. REMEMBER no one is perfect.
Live intentionally. What are some things you always want to do? You have one life, live it to accomplish the goals of your dreams.
